Leaders of Tomorrow Children's Home Program

An afternoon visit to the Nane Nane Agricultural Fair

Nane Nane (named after the eighth month, August, and eighth day on which the fair takes place annually) is one of the important national holidays in Tanzania.  It honors and celebrates achievements of the agricultural community and includes all kind of displays to learn from, from companion planting and Jatropha soap making to organic gardening and innovative animal husbandry. There is music and traditional dance, speeches and food, huge 'dollys' and of course ice cream!  Enjoy scenes of the adventure that the watoto (children) had at the fair!

Mzee Pete and children participating in the Leaders of Tomorrow
Children's Home program arrive to the Nane Nane Fair.
A little apprehensive about what they'll see but still excited!

The adventure begins! Bro Kidasa leads the way...

Some of the food demonstration plots had really large and healthy looking
displays of organic vegetables...

...and livestock kept in examples of idea conditions.

A well rounded education includes both 'book learning' and practical applications in life experiences!
We strive to make this program a meaningful and life changing experience for the children.

The tour through the Nane Nane Fair grounds was quite extensive and spread out over several acres of land in Njiro outside of Arusha.

What's a fair without ice cream?? ....mmmmmm good!

...and then, there was the 'giant dolly!' The watoto were a bit taken aback by this different 'creature' and had to check him out some before they were comfortable!

Hamisi took the plunge and found that the huge 'dolly' was nothing to
be frightened of...

...Halima and Obeid were next to get 'dolly' hugs!

Halima and Elia were actually interviewed by one of Arusha's

major radio stations, Clouds FM...and they spoke right up, representin' every time!

Winnie gives a 'thumbs up' to the whole experience!! The children were happy, but tired and couldn't stop talking about the day...especially that dolly!!!
